Burns' personal papers and addresses and essays. The personal papers include correspondence, reports, and other materials regarding his involvement with the Indiana Historical Society; the Harrison Mansion Restoration Committee to restore Grouseland, William Henry Harrison's Vincennes, Ind. home; and the Last Man's Club of Company D, 158th Indiana Infantry, an Indianapolis Spanish-American War veterans group. There is also information on the building and history of South Hall, Wabash College, and photographs of South Hall, Grouseland, and the Last Man's Club. Topics of Burns' addresses and essays include the problems of tobacco use and the role of architecture in Indiana history.

A native of Bloomfield, Ind., Burns served in the Indiana Volunteer Infantry during the Spanish American War. He began practice as an architect in Indianapolis in 1910, and was a member of the firm Burns and Burns.
